Over a 30-year military career, he led U.S. and NATO forces in Iraq and Afghanistan during some of the most complex counterterrorism operations of the post-9/11 era—including more than 100 successful raids in Iraq, mass casualty responses in Afghanistan, and the defense of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul. After retiring from active duty, General Hammond became the Chief Executive of Home Base, a partnership between the Boston Red Sox and Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Under his leadership, Home Base has become the nation’s first and largest private-sector center of excellence for the Invisible Wounds of War, delivering world-class, no-cost care for nearly 50,000 Veterans and Families across all 50 states and 14 countries. He has since expanded Home Base programs to Florida, Texas, and Arizona, while forging global partnerships with the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Australia, and Israel. A trusted advisor to biotech firms, technology ventures, and mission-driven organizations, Hammond has briefed U.S. Presidents, Governors, the White House, the UK Parliament, and leading corporations.
