Howard Behar

Howard Behar

Howard Behar is the former president of Starbucks North America and Starbucks International. He joined Starbucks in 1989 as vice president of sales and operations, and grew the retail business from 28 stores to more than 400, by the time he was named president of Starbucks Coffee International in 1995. Under Behar's leadership, Starbucks opened its first location in Tokyo in 1996, then introduced the Starbucks brand across Asia and the United Kingdom. He retired as president of Starbucks North America in January 2003, but continues to serve in an advisory capacity and to coach leaders at all levels. Since his retirement he has written a book It's Not About the Coffee that describe his leadership principles. Behar served on several other boards, including Anna's Linens, The Gap Inc., Jewish Family Service of Seattle, Washington State Budget and Policy Center and Board of Advisors at Rosewood Capital. His book, It's Not About the Coffee, describe his leadership principles.

Apolo Anton Ohno became the best short-track skater in the United States in less than two years, when he began his career in 1995. At fourteen years of age, after training under Pat Wentland in Lake Placid for just six months, Ohno claimed his first overall title at the U.S. Championships. He is now a five-time Olympic medalist. At the podium, Ohno discusses his journey from a rambunctious and rule-breaking teenager to an Olympic gold medalist. His anecdotes are endearing and heart-felt, but also emphasize the importance of finding one’s path, committing to it, and reaping the benefits of hard work. Ohno recently claimed another title as season three champion of the ABC hit, "Dancing with the Stars." After ten weeks of competing with his partner, International Latin Youth Champion, Julianne Hough in dances such as the Cha Cha, Tango and Waltz, Ohno and Hough beat out former ‘N Sync member Joey Fatone and world female super middleweight boxing champion Laila Ali in the final Freestyle dance to bring home the gold.

Pete Carroll

Pete Carroll

Pete Carroll is one of the best coaches at any level of football. Carroll has achieved the rare feat of winning a college National Championship and a Super Bowl. He won Super Bowl XLVII with the Seattle Seahawks and has built one of the most dynamic rosters in the NFL. As the head coach at USC from 2001-09, Carroll went 97-19 and won seven Pac-10 titles. During his tenure, the school produced three Heisman Trophy winners. A 34 game winning streak included the 2005 BCS National Championship and only ended with a loss in the title game the following year. Carroll had previously been an NFL head coach with the New York Jets and New England Patriots, taking the latter to the playoffs twice. He got his first NFL assistant job with the Buffalo Bills after being a college coach for over a decade. Carroll started his coaching career as a graduate assistant for three seasons at his alma mater Pacific. Today, despite being the oldest active head coach in the NFL, he is known for his youthful enthusiasm and tireless work ethic.
